State Community Crime Prevention Plan

The Office of Crime Prevention is currently working with other relevant government agencies to develop a whole-of-Government State Community Crime Prevention Plan.

The plan, due to be released later this year, will respond to priority crimes within regions and will be guided by earlier consultations and the existing Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plans developed by local governments.

The main themes to emerge include antisocial behaviour, alcohol related violence, youth boredom and fear of crime.

This plan will renew and build on the achievements of the State Community Safety and Crime Prevention Strategy 2004-2007, which currently guides the strategic direction of the State-wide fight against crime.

The strategy is based on a partnership approach to crime, bringing together communities, local governments and State Government agencies to identify grassroots solutions to local crime and safety issues

The Strategy (2004-07) has contributed to reducing burglary and other property crime and has set the foundations for the long-term prevention of crime.

Through the new plan, the Office of Crime Prevention will:
  • build on successes in supporting families, children and young people, in strengthening communities, designing out crime and targeting priority offences;
  • provide high-level crime prevention policy advice and strategic direction;
  • identify and respond to the emerging priorities, including targeting communities and groups at high risk; and
  • maintain and grow successful property crime reduction programs.
