Who We Are

The Office of Crime Prevention was established in October 2001 as the State Government agency responsible for coordinating crime prevention and community safety initiatives within Western Australia.

 The Office of Crime Prevention:

  • initiates crime prevention public awareness campaigns;
  • develops and coordinates comprehensive strategies and policies;
  • provides crime prevention advice to State and Local Government;
  • undertakes and commissions research to establish best practice community safety and crime prevention strategies;
  • informs the relevant people about training and development programs; and,
  • provides grant funding for community safety and crime prevention initiatives.
The Office of Crime Prevention seeks to minimise the number of people and businesses who are victims of crime and to minimise the impact of offending on the broader community by providing leadership on crime prevention and engaging the community at all levels.

Working on the premise that ‘crime is everybody’s business’, the Office of Crime Prevention has made significant inroads into building safer communities through programs including Burglar Beware, Eyes on the Street, Goodbye Graffiti, Leavers WA, Designing Out Crime, Neighbourhood Watch, its Grants Scheme and Community Safety and Crime Prevention Planning.
