The completion of formal secondary education is a time of relaxation and celebration for approximately 10,000 year 12 students in Western Australia.
With such celebrations expected to grow, the State Government is committed to ensuring that school leavers celebrate in a safe and responsible manner, with minimal impact on residents and services in Leavers destinations.
The management of Leavers in Western Australia
The five-point plan
A five-point plan was developed in May 2005 to facilitate the across government management of Leavers in Western Australia by:
- focusing on rights and responsibilities
- improving safety through planning and harm minimisation
- actively supporting regional communities to manage visiting school leavers
- better coordinating between government and non-government agencies
- researching ways of better managing large groups of young people
Three-year strategic plan
The strategic plan enables the Office of Crime Prevention to consolidate roles and responsibilities of State Government agencies, local coordinating groups and non-government agencies to strengthen the partnerships of those involved in managing Leavers’.
Official Leavers period
The official Leavers period for 2009 is (dates inclusive):
